  1. I believe that happiness is merely a byproduct of usefulness.
  2. What really makes me happy is when I’m useful. When I create something that others can use. Or even when I create something I can use.
  3. “The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” — — Ralph Waldo Emerson
  4. Don’t take it too seriously. Don’t overthink it. Just DO something that’s useful. Anything.

  1. “Work hard at your job and you can make a living. Work hard on yourself and you can make a fortune.” — Jim Rohn
  2. While others are trying to improve their job, you’re continuously improving yourself, expanding your vision, skills, and abilities.
  3. You need to put yourself into positions that create immense pressure. The kind of pressure that will either make or break you. This is how you purge out your weakness and small-mindedness. It won’t be pretty. But it will change you. And eventually, you’ll rise up. New. Changed. Better.
  4. If you don’t know who you are, you’ll always try to be someone else. And thus, you’ll never be the best. Your work will always be a cheap imitation. It will lack the feeling that produced the work or the idea.
  5. Becoming the best is about never being satisfied with what you’ve done. It’s about continually improving who you are. It’s knowing success will come because you know who you are and what you stand for.

Every day is simply practice at getting better.

  1. In every situation, you must ask yourself, “Is this the best possible use of my time?” Is this the best approach? Or am I settling for less?
  2. However, once you determine who you want to become, you must start acting like that person now. Otherwise, you will never become that person.
  3. Once you know what you want, it becomes painfully obvious what you don’t want. Thus, you won’t be seduced by the many good things in life distracting you from the better and best.
  4. When given an option, choose the harder right. As we can learn from Steve Jobs, standards aren’t for bending. Consistently walk the higher road and you will be transformed internally and externally.
  5. Become the master of your thoughts. When you catch yourself mindlessly wandering, or going places counter to your values and goals, stop yourself. Memorize a poem, quote, scripture, or song that brings clarity and light to you. Whenever you have a negative or unhelpful thought, recite or ponder your memorized friend. Then, reflect on your values and goals. Eventually, you’ll get better — even automatic — at thinking about the things you want to think about. Your thoughts are what create your reality.

  1. Striking a balance and committing time, attention and energy to that one special project that needs your focus is possible if you really want to pursue a meaningful project. The trick is to turn that passion project into a habit! What you do every night after work can be life and career changing!
  2. If you have a good idea of who you are and what you want to do with your life, you are half way to a successful life. Invest in yourself, it’s the best investment you can ever make. Create a bigger version of yourself. Don’t settle on a self-imposed plateau; always aim a bit higher than before.
  3. It’s not about the kind of skills you acquire because you have to, but because you want to and it feels right. Something you are happy to do without hesitation. Skills that are unique to you. Skills you can only learn by doing. Skills that can only be developed when you find your true self.
  4. Blogging encourages deep thinking. When you begin to share what you know with others, your ability to communicate gets better. Blogging helps your brain to stay active. You will also be able to link ideas and pieces of information better.
